Maureen Dodge
This is my first year at Lake Ann Elementary. I spent the last nineteen years at Betsie Valley Elementary where I taught first, second and third grade. I also taught a third-fourth multiage class for six years.
When the opportunity to move to Lake Ann arose, I jumped. I started my career at Benzie with Ms. Wheeler at Betsie Valley. I also taught with Mr. Hood, Ms. Sedlar and Mrs. Pettengill. I am thrilled to be a part of this great staff and school.
I grew up in a small town in lower Michigan, Fenton. I graduated from the University of Michigan and taught in a private school for five years. After vacationing in Traverse City, I decided to move north. I moved to Traverse City in 1978. I put my teaching career on hold and began working in the restaurant business. In 1986, I returned to my first love, teaching and taught preschool in Frankfort for two years. I was hired by Benzie in 1989 as a first grade teacher.
My husband Jim, is the quality manager at Tower Automotive. We have three grown daughters. Jennifer is 32 and lives with her three children in Traverse City. Colleen is 30 and also lives in the Traverse area with her husband Kevin. They have two children with a baby due next February. Our youngest daughter, Allison 23, just graduated from the University of Michigan. She is a graphic designer in the Ann Arbor area. We also share our home with two goofy labs named Bella and Buster. In my free time, in the summer time , I am a passionate shade gardener. I also enjoy reading and walking.
