Financial Aid

Paying for college, or some sort of post-secondary education, is something most students and their parents worry about.  Students worry whether their part-time and summer jobs will yield enough money to pay for tuition, books and housing. Will  local scholarships will be available to them? And much more.

At Benzie Central High School, the counselors are able to help parents and students work through the somewhat tricky maze of the financial aid process.  Once this process is explained and de-mystified, most parents and studentsare able to see that it is not that difficult.  To help students and their parents understand the financial aid process, the counseling office sponsors a FINANCIAL AID NIGHT every winter.  This year's program will be DECEMBER 8 @ 5:30P.M. in the high school auditorium.  Sally King, a financial aid officer from Northwestern Michigan College's Office of Financial Aid will present the "in's and out's"of financial aid.  She will explain the different types of financial aid; grants, loans, scholarships, etc. and walk everyone through the process of filing the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Parents will be able to go online and file for their PIN numbers at this time.  Both parents and students must have their individual PIN number in order to submit the applicaton. This FAFSA application must be filed in order for a student to receive any type of financial aid (including work study).  Parents and students can file anytime after January 1st.  Everyone is encouraged to file on-line and there will be assistance for this, also.  "College Goal Sunday " is a day when parents and students are invited to area colleges to do the actual filing of their FAFSAs. Check this sight for more information about "College Goal Sunday".
