Honor Recognition

Honor Roll: The honor roll is computed on a 4.0 system using plus (+) and minus (-) grades. The honor roll is computed quarterly and includes all students with a 3.0 grade point average for the marking period.

National Honor Society: Admission to the National Honor Society is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership and service. Students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 are invited to apply for memberships in the fall of their junior year. The Faculty Advisory Council, made up of five teachers, reviews applications and makes the final decision in the selection of members.

Students wishing to join the Benzie Central Chapter of the National Honor Society must demonstrate participation in activities that represent leadership and service in both the school and the community. They must also submit two letters attesting to their high moral character. Once they have become members of the NHS, they must maintain a 3.5 GPA and are expected to continue to serve their school and community. Membership in the National Honor Society is both an honor and a commitment.

Academic Letter Club: An annual fall awards night is held to recognize the top students in the school based solely on grade point average. To be recognized for this honor, a student must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (for the previous year) and must carry a full seven credit load. The awards night will be the Board of Education’s function. For more information please see the student handbook.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian: Students under consideration must have completed four out of the eight semesters at Benzie Central High School (9-12). Computation for Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be at the end of the first semester of their senior year. Students who transfer into Benzie Central High School, but who do not meet the four-semester requirement, may be considered for co-valedictorian or co-salutatorian if their previous academic program merits consideration.

Honors Program: A broad spectrum of awards is given to students (grades 9 thru 12) in the spring of the year to recognize their accomplishments in academics throughout the year. A Senior Awards night is held as well as an under classman awards night.
