Jerry Block

Mr. Block began his college career in 1969. After being drafted and serving two years in the U.S. Army, he returned to college, and graduated from Michigan State University in 1976. He began his teaching career in room 29 at Benzie Central High School, and can still be found there today. Since 1976, Mr. Block has taught, advised, and coached at Benzie Central.

Mr. Block says, “At some point in a teachers career the students, the FFA, school, and family all blend into one. You cannot separate your school life from your family life. Thankfully, I have the most wonderful wife in the world that not only understands this, but generously participates in school and FFA functions.”

Throughout his numerous years of teaching, Mr. Block has had several FFA students become Outstanding Juniors, receive State Degrees, and become contest winners. He has had state officers and American Degree winners, and probably most important, he has had the opportunity to impact over four thousand students in his classes. He has also been the supervising and mentor teacher for several beginning and student teachers.

Jerry has served as Region VI advisor several times, been a member of the MAAE board, served on the State FFA Advisor board, and is currently serving on the newly established Michigan FFA Board of Directors. In 1988, Mr. Block received the Honorary State FFA Degree, and in 1988 was selected as Regional MEA Teacher of the Year.  In 2005, he was named Agriscience Teacher of the Year.

Besides school activities, Mr. Block is very active in his local community. He has served on the local fair board, the Farm Bureau board, the Benzie County Soil Conservation District board, the Farm Bureau board, and been an Emergency Response Coordinator for agricultural disasters.

“To have the family I have, and live in the country I do, and having the career I have enjoyed, I truly feel blessed,” concludes Mr. Block.
