Kevin R. Kinnan

Mr. Kinnan teaches Benzie Central High School's Earth Science classes. He has taught at BCHS since 1997. Kinnan earned a major in Environmental Education and a minor in Earth Science from Michigan State University, and he has taken additional coursework from Saginaw Valley State University, Central Michigan University and most recently, Mississippi State University.

Prior to coming to Benzie, Mr. Kinnan worked at the Saginaw Intermediate School District's Hartley Outdoor Education Center in St. Charles, Michigan for eleven years. At Hartley he taught outdoor and environmental education classes, led backpacking trips, and helped take care of the 300 acre natural preserve there.

Mr. Kinnan grew up in Bryan, Ohio, about 5 hours south of Benzie County. Bryan, a town about the size of Cadillac, is home to the Spangler Candy Company which produces the Dum-Dum Sucker. As a youngster he and his family spent many vacations in northern Michigan. These positive "up north" experiences eventually led him to the idea of moving to Michigan after graduation.

One of Mr. Kinnan's favorite things to do in life is to travel the U.S. with his wife and three children. So far he has been to 48 of the 50 states and many of our country's national parks. Other activities he enjoys include camping and canoeing, hiking and skiing, star gazing and photography.
