Mrs. Nancy Reed
Mrs. Nancy Reed teaches music at Platte River and Betsie Valley Elementary.
Mrs. Reed grew up in Flushing, Michigan. She spent her life involved with music: from singing in church and in choirs to her 10 years of piano lessons and then playing trumpet in the Flushing High School bands and orchestras as well as with the Flint School of Performing Arts. In high school, she traveled throughout the state and country competing with her marching band. She also traveled to Germany to perform with the Flint Youth Symphony.
She earned her Music Degree at the University of Michigan and also received a degree in math. While at Michigan, she traveled with the Symphony Band both to Berlin, Germany and on a state of Michigan tour, which included a performance at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Mrs. Reed also has a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University in Library Media.
Mrs. Reed’s first teaching job was at Hale Area Schools in Hale, Michigan. She taught 5th grade through 12th grade band as well as a math class here and there. She met her husband, Matt, while teaching there. Mrs. Reed has since taught at Thunder Bay Junior High in Alpena, at Waverly High School in Lansing, and at Pullman Elementary School in Pullman, Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed have two sons, Luke and Jake, who are both students at Platte River Elementary. The whole family stays busy with Cub Scouts, skiing at Crystal Mountain, youth sports, and Benzie sports. Mrs. Reed has had season tickets to University of Michigan football games for over 15 years and enjoys going to games in the Big House every fall. When she has time, she also likes to knit.
The Reed family is really enjoying living and working in Benzie County!!
