Ms. Corey

I am a Benzie Central as well as a Crystal Lake alumnus. Imagine my pleasant surprised the day I realized that I was going to be able to teach in the very classroom where I attended first grade! I no longer live in Benzie County but enjoy the commute and the wonderful and familiar scenery along the way.
I am also a Central Michigan University graduate with a degree in Special Education (as a teacher of the emotionally impaired). My first teaching experience was for Crawford AuSable schools in Grayling as a middle school resource room teacher. There, too, I had a long drive to work, more than forty-five miles into the sun both ways.
When I began having children, I took a leave of absence from teaching to raise my children. I believe that parents are the first and most important teachers that their children will ever have. That belief was a significant factor in my decision to return to teaching and pursue a graduate degree as a teacher of pre-primary special needs children.
It is my pleasure and privilege to help children and their families flourish in an environment that is responsive and nurturing, and includes lots of support, information, acceptance and encouragement within a consistent and dependable structure. In the classroom we eat meals together, sing, dance, play, learn new things, become more confident and expand our knowledge. And I do mean we. Every day I learn something about myself, about children in general or a special child, as I relate to the small children in my classroom.
Early childhood is the most favorable time for any child to discover and engage the world around them. It is a time of curiosity and excitement about everything and a time when we as teachers and parents can ignite in a child a hunger for learning that can last a lifetime. It doesn’t get any better than that.
